Time for Action: 4Front Atlantic committee responds to OneNS report

February 14, 2014

HALIFAX, Friday, February 14 – The 4Front Atlantic advisory committee welcomes the strong recommendations and urgent call to action detailed in the recently released report by the Nova Scotia Commission on Building Our New Economy. The report titled, Now or Never: An Urgent Call to Action for Nova Scotians, was prepared by a five member panel, chaired by Acadia University President, Ray Ivany.

“The 4Front Atlantic conferences invited our region’s top business leaders to take concrete actions to mobilize for change in order to succeed in a challenging global economy,” said Kevin Lynch, Vice-Chair, BMO Financial Group. “The report’s goals are consistent with the 4Front Action Plan, which outlined strategies for Atlantic Canadian businesses to leverage their competitive advantages, develop new markets, and enhance the value of their products and services.”

The Nova Scotia Commission on Building Our New Economy is an independent body mandated to engage all Nova Scotians in a discussion about how we want to shape our economic future. The report recommendations while ambitious, aim to engage citizens in taking personal action to create a stronger future for the province.

“Our universities must be directly implicated in this discussion,” said George Cooper, Counsel, McInnes Cooper and President of the University of King’s College. “They play a pivotal role in growing Nova Scotia’s economy and seizing opportunities to expand our potential in a new global economic landscape.”
